Executive Order 13841: Family Separation Policy Directive

On June 20, 2018, President Trump signed Executive Order 13841, titled "Affording Congress an Opportunity To Address Family Separation." The order directed the Department of Homeland Security to maintain family unity by keeping parents and children together during detention at the border, rather than separating them. The confirmed direct impact was that families apprehended at the southern border began being detained together in family units instead of parents being separated from children for prosecution.
