National Guard Extension for COVID-19 Response and Economic Recovery
On August 3, 2020, the Trump administration signed Memorandum 2020-17386 extending the use of National Guard units to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and support economic recovery efforts. The memorandum continued federal activation of National Guard personnel beyond their initial deployment window. The confirmed effect was the continued deployment of National Guard members to COVID-19 response activities including testing, contact tracing, and support to healthcare facilities in multiple states.
